Group Practice and Teaching/ Teaching as Practice (GPT/TAP) - MBSR Teacher Training for Qualified MBSR Teachers
Group mentoring is a required step toward certification. It’s geared toward new teachers who have offered at least two cycles of the 8-week curriculum but is also suitable for those with more experience.

The Heart of Mindfulness: A Silent Meditation Retreat
The Heart of Mindfulness Retreat is a 7-day silent meditation retreat held at the Shambhalam Mountain Center in Colorado, co-led by Jon Aaron and Janet Solyntjes. It will emphasize the deep understanding and practice of mindfulness in its most universal expression while respecting and acknowledging its contemplative and spiritual roots.
MBSR Teacher Advancement Intensive
The MBSR Teacher Advancement Intensive (TAI) fulfills the second-level formal program in the Global Mindfulness Collaborative’s teacher training pathway to becoming certified as an MBSR teacher. The TAI strengthens teaching skills, personal practice, and expands experiential and didactic understanding of the elements of teaching MBSR through. The program is offered in a range of formats, including 3 successive week-ends, or as a multi-day workshop.

In this first step in the MBSR Teacher Training pathway teacher-trainees engage fully in the 8-week MBSR program as participants and as observers. In addition, they engage with other trainees and the instructor(s) in a 3.5 hour seminar exploring the underpinnings, approach, and teacher qualities in which the program is steeped. Foundations in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction
Jon Aaron will be offering Foundations in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction in the Fall of 2021, the first step in the MBSR Teacher Training Pathway. It will be online, live, via Zoom, offered in partnership with Mindful Leader.
In this ten week program, students:
* attend all sessions as a participant/observer of an MBSR program (includes orientation, all eight week sessions plus the All-Day session)
* participate in ten concurrent professional training seminars
In this first step in the MBSR Teacher Training pathway teacher trainees engage fully in the 8-week MBSR program as participants and as observers. In addition, they engage with other trainees and the instructor in a 3.5 hour seminar exploring the underpinnings, approach, and teacher qualities in which the program is steeped. Full attendance at all sessions is required, excluding emergencies or weather cancellations.
Pre-requisites
- Previous participation in an 8-week MBSR course
- A minimum of one 5-7-day residential meditation retreat*
- A minimum of two years of personal meditation practice
*Each application will be evaluated on its individual merits.

Commitment Required
This is an intensive course! Attendance at all MBSR classes and seminars is required, in addition to the MBSR Class ongoing practice assignments between classes, there are readings, journaling and other assignments.
NOTE: Cohorts are limited to just 12 teacher trainees.
Tuition: $1899-$2274 (depending on payment plan).

The MBSR Teacher Advancement Intensive (TAI) fulfills the second-level formal program in the Global Mindfulness Collaborative’s teacher training pathway to becoming certified as an MBSR teacher. The TAI will strengthen teaching skills, personal practice, and expand experiential and didactic understanding of the elements of teaching MBSR through:
• Opportunities to practice teaching the elements of MBSR.
• Receiving peer and teacher trainer feedback in each session.
• Cultivating skills in offering meditation practices and didactic teachings of MBSR through self-reflection, dialogue, and practice.
• Forming community with other MBSR teachers.
• Between-session assignments prior to each weekend.
• Strengthening meditation practice.
• Widening personal and professional resilience and mindful presence which can be shared with others through teaching.
All teachers for this Teacher Advancement Intensive are members of the Mindfulness Teacher Training Alliance (MTTA) and the Global Mindfulness Collaborative (GMC) and are certified MBSR Teacher Trainers through the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts School of Medicine and the Mindfulness Center at Brown University School of Public Health (MC@B), a member of the GMC. Successful Completion of this training will be recognized by all members of the Global Mindfulness Collaborative including the Mindfulness Center at Brown University.
Pre-requisites
Prerequisites for this program include participation in a previous MBSR Foundations program, two qualifying retreats, and regular ongoing meditation practice for at least 2 years.
Tuition
Tuition for this 9 day professional training is $2600, with all materials included. Tuition is due in full upon acceptance into the program. Payment plans and scholarships are available. We are also happy to have the support of our partners at Mindfulness Meditation Live who manage a scholarship fund for BIPOC MBSR teachers in training.
